Trends in Healthcare Investing

A dynamic group of senior private equity professionals actively investing in healthcare services will kick off the Forum; the panel will share their perspectives on hot sectors, growth strategies for portfolio companies and the overall outlook for dealmaking in 2020.

9:00 – 9:30 am

Spotlight on Practice Management

PPMs have bloomed in recent years, with an increasing number of physician specialties joining the trend. While there has been no slowdown in PPM growth, skeptics remain. So what’s on the horizon? Panelists will discuss their views regarding where the industry stands and where it is headed.

9:30 – 10:00 am

Market Outlook on Behavioral Health Investing

An assortment of behavioral health subsectors continue to be appealing investment opportunities, including substance abuse disorder treatment, medication assisted treatment, mental health and process disorder addiction treatment and ABA and autism focused services. This panel will discuss the drivers behind these various investments and the outlook for investing in behavioral health.

10:00 – 10:30 am

The Investment Bankers’ Perspective
on Healthcare Services

2019 is on track for a record number of transactions and soaring purchase price multiples in the healthcare services sector. Consolidation within this market continued to increase as all manner of providers explored new strategic partnerships to better position themselves to face the business pressures of a changing healthcare landscape. This industry-leading panel of investment bankers will discuss the current market climate for investors in the healthcare services market, with advice for investors considering deals in 2019 and beyond.

10:30 – 10:50 am

Networking Break

10:50 – 11:20 am

Value Investing: Creativity with Distressed Situations

Given the potential downturn economic pundits are predicting and the continuously changing landscape in the healthcare industry, investing in healthcare companies is more complicated, but potentially more lucrative than ever. This industry-leading panel of private equity investors and advisors will discuss where and how to invest in healthcare companies or niche sectors to take advantage of the opportunities a market downturn may offer.

11:20 – 11:50 am

Investing In and Navigating Managed Care

As the lines between payors and providers continue to blur, the borders of the “managed care” industry are ever-evolving. Not just limited to health insurers, this market includes benefit managers, care management and coordination companies, tech-enabled vendors, high-touch in-home care providers, and innovative direct-to-employer service providers.  As these companies work to bend the cost curve, private equity investments and partnerships with this industry continues to grow. This session will focus on both the opportunities in this space as well as the unique regulatory and market challenges associated with these investments.

11:50 am – 12:20 pm

View from the Hill and Beyond: Policy Updates Impacting Healthcare Services

Given the current political climate and impending elections, what are the implications for the US healthcare system? Our Washington insiders will analyze the potential effects on policy and “read the tea leaves” with an eye towards the budding impact on healthcare services investing.

12:20 – 12:50 pm

Evolving Investments in Pharmacy Services

Investments in niche sectors of pharmacy services, including specialty/infusion pharmacy, 340B hospital and FQHC services, IDD/LTC and other packaging-focused services, have gained huge traction as investors have focused on the highest margin opportunities. This panel will explore the shift away from more traditional pharmaceutical companies and offer thoughts on the highest priority investment opportunities.
